A True Happily Ever After

Shonagh Scott & Thomas Archer married in the most magical place on earth on 27th April 2022 at Disney World, Orlando after a a two year engagement! They were kind enough to share with us an insight to their planning and the day itself!

Tell us about your proposal!
After 10 years of being together Tommy proposed outside the foot of Cinderellas Castle in Magic Kingdom in front of our families. It was a complete surprise and I was in a bubble for about 2 years!!

What made you choose your venue and tell us about your theme?
Disney is our magical place, we love it there and obviously having got engaged there we joked about getting married there. We thought it would be really cheesy but upon researching it we found out that Disney host the most incredible fairytale weddings imaginable! So then we was sold!

Tell us about your bridal party, how did you choose them?
We decided to keep it intimate and fly out our immediate family. I had my twin sister and Tommy’s sister for my bridesmaids, and Tommy had his twin brothers as his best-men. I asked our 16 year old nephew to give me away, and we had our 10 year old nephew as our ring bearer.

What was your favourite part of planning?
A Disney wedding isn’t the same as traditional English wedding, it doesn’t flow quite the same way. So every part of the planning process felt exciting! It was fun organising all the different elements of the day as it’s like nothing any of us had ever been to before! Adding on the dessert party at Epcot for the fireworks with a surprise ride mix-in on Soarin’ was definitely one of my favourite parts to organise. That was a last minute add-on.

What was the hardest part of planning?
Definitely having 3 postponements due to Covid! It’s not so simple to change the date when you have so many vendors to contact and align new dates with, especially when they’re on a different time zone.

Favourite moment on the day?
Our first touch! We did a first touch in lieu of a first look which is a bit of tradition over there. Usually you wouldn’t see the groom until you’re walking down the alter here in England, but over there you see each other beforehand. They had Tommy close his eyes while I came up behind him back to back, we held hands and had a little chat which was an incredible way to settle our nerves ahead of the big entrance.

Tips for future couples?
Enjoy it every moment of it as the day itself goes so quickly, so make the most of the planning process. Go to the wedding fayres, organise taste testings, throw yourselves into it as it all goes in the blink of an eye!

Anything either of you would do differently?
Nothing! We loved every second.

Honeymoon plans if any?
Maybe a tour of all the Disney parks around the world…? Haha!
