5 Tips from Essex’s Wedding Florist of the Year

With so much planning to be done before your big day, the wedding flowers may feel like an extra job on your to do list! Feeling overwhelmed by all the decisions? Don’t worry, we spoke to Essex’s Wedding Florist of the Year Elisha’s Floral Design who gave us 5 top tips to make your floral choices easier…

1. Early Planning

Many couples do not start thinking about flowers and finding a florist until later down the line of organising their wedding. Ideally, I would suggest to start thinking about this as early as possible after your date and venue have been secured. Book a face to face meeting with a florist and be sure to show the florist your ideas, images are most certainly the best way to do this to ensure you are on the same page.

You need to find that right florist that has a good understanding of your brief, that makes you feel confident and comfortable that they will deliver your vision on the day.

2. Research your Florists

Start with those who are local to your wedding venue, or recommended at your venue. Your mainly looking for a florist that has worked at the venue. They will know how and where to dress the venue with florals. Recommendations is always the best, ask friends or family if they have already tied the knot as they can be a wealth of knowledge and give recommendations. If you find a florist you like that hasn’t worked at your wedding venue, schedule a site visit with the florist to look around with you and discuss where you would like florals.

3. Take Inspiration from your Wedding Venue

Your wedding venue will most certainly influence and set the style of wedding. Always work with the surroundings of your chosen venue or space. Find inspiration from your venue, look at their social media and website at previous weddings held at the venue. If your venue is a barn, going for more rustic, natural and wild florals will complement the venue beautifully. If your venue is a modern hotel, go for more modern contempary florals.

Either way, opt for arrangements that generally look like they belong in the setting.

4. Prepare for your Consultaion

Be sure to do your home work and be prepared for meeting with a florist, knowing the following points:

  • Colour Palette

  • Flowers you do and don't like (mainly don’t like as your florist will be sure not to include)

  • Style of Bouquet

  • Pictures of floral arrangements you like

  • Number of Bridal and Groom’s Party

  • Table numbers

  • Times of your wedding day

5. Reuse your flowers

From your ceremony, moving them to other areas of your wedding venue, or wedding breakfast room. If you have flowers on a registry table, such as a long low arrangement you can reuse this on your top table

If you have an arch/deconstructed arch at the entrance of your venue/church you can move to create a photo back drop for your guests to take photos. Depending on your wedding breakfast table centrepieces you could also be place on a plinth to dress the start of the isle. This is a great money saver for couples.
